A ‘trigger’ is any situation, person, thought, memory, or dream that elicits a strong emotion inside us. A positive emotion is usually the result of a positive trigger. Negative triggers often cause negative emotions inside us. Remember that all positive emotions are rooted in love, while all negative emotions are rooted in fear.
We often pay little or no attention to positive triggers and happy emotions, taking them for granted. However, as soon as we start to experience uncomfortable, fear- based emotions such as anger, jealousy, hurt and disappointment, we usually start blaming our circumstances, the people around us, or even ourselves, for our misery. Blaming might provide us with temporary relief, but the truth is that blaming also keeps us firmly stuck in exactly those unpleasant circumstances we loathe so much. The only way to permanently transform negative outcomes into positive outcomes is to pay attention to the messages our triggers are trying to communicate to us and then do the inner work required.
